Location&Direction: This temple is located in Thanjavur district,valangaiman Circle .One should should go to ammapettai Railway station (thanjavur-needa mangalam route) where this temple is situated 6km from there. There are many buses direct from Thanjavur and Kumbakonam.

This temple is second in pancharanya sthalams.(Thirukarukavur,Thiruavalivanallur,Arithuvaramangalam,Thiruirumpoolai,Thirukolambathur). As all these five temples are situated in a mark cross, one can visit all these five temples in a day. Legend says that Sambupatha sarma ,a Siva devotee called Lord shiva to identify his wife.As Shiva,with goddess obliged to the devotee pointing his wife,hence the name satchinathar and the sthalam was named as "aval ival nallur". It is sacred to take bathe in Siva Pushkirini which is situated in front of the temple.Thirugnana sambandar praises Lord as "Thamparisudaiyar" in his verses.
